When it comes to keeping your home comfortable and, at the same time keeping energy costs down, there are many home improvement projects that can help. An energy efficient home is a happy home. Why? It helps keep costs down when cooling your home in summer and warming it in winter. It also ensures your home is as eco-friendly as possible and reduces its impact on the environment. One of the best home improvement projects to help improve the energy efficiency of your home is to update or replace your siding. However, there are a range of different siding materials available these days, and not all are created equal when it comes to helping make your home energy efficient. Our best tip? If you are serious about making your home as energy efficient as possible, we highly recommend insulated vinyl siding.

“I would definitely recommend cellulose loose fill insulation,” says one home improvement contractor. “I would choose fiberglass loose fill insulation,” says another. Sound familiar? Chances are, if you are looking at installing new insulation in your home, you will have heard many different opinions on loose fill insulation and which is ultimately the best. Unfortunately, many home improvement contractors out there will attempt to sell you on loose fill insulation based on the materials they sell, with their opinions being heavily influenced by the materials they offer rather than actual facts. That’s certainly not the case at Windows on Washington. We base our recommendations on what is right for our clients. So, which is best? Well, it depends on your situation. The performance of cellulose loose fill insulation is unmatched – its R-value is significantly higher than loose fiberglass filled insulation. However, fiberglass insulation is cheaper.

Perhaps one of the biggest (and often most nerve-wracking) home improvement projects you can undertake is a roof replacement. Not only is a roof replacement one of the more expensive home improvement projects. It can also be one of the most disruptive to your everyday life. That is not to say you should not replace your roof if it is showing signs of disrepair, as the benefits far outweigh the perceived headaches. The good news is that headaches can be avoided and your roof replacement can remain stress-free if you take the time to answer some important questions first, like: how long do I want my new roof to last, what is the best material to use, do I have the best offer, and more.
Head here to find out the other important questions to ask before replacing your roof.
When embarking on a home improvement project, the most crucial aspect you want to get right is finding a trustworthy home improvement contractor. The contractor you select can make or break your experience, so it is vital you get it right from the start. However, there are countless home improvement contractors out there – so how do you know where to start or what to look for? Firstly, it is important you choose someone local. The benefit of choosing someone local is that local contractors live in the community with their clients. This means if they carry out poor work, word will spread, and no home improvement contractor wants a bad reputation in their community. Secondly, make sure you look at their past work, and ask for references.
