Honestly, if there was ever a year we are happy to put behind us, it is 2020. It has been one of unprecedented change – to the way we live, work and play. COVID-19 has ensured 2020 has been one of the most unstable, and quite frankly terrifying years in modern history. However, WoW is thankful and fortunate to have made it through the year thanks to all of our wonderful clients and amazing team. We could not have done it without you! And, while we mostly want to look ahead to the future and what 2021 holds, we thought we would take a quick look back on the year that was and recap some of our most popular blogs. We hope you find some interesting and valuable insights, and perhaps even some inspiration for your 2021 home improvement projects. Once again, thank you for sticking with us this year. We cannot wait to work with you again next year. From everyone at WoW, have a happy and safe New Year and we’ll see you soon.

Which Siding is Best For Improving Your Home's Energy Efficiency?

When it comes to keeping your home comfortable and, at the same time keeping energy costs down, there are many home improvement projects that can help. An energy efficient home is a happy home. Why? It helps keep costs down when cooling your home in summer and warming it in winter. It also ensures your home is as eco-friendly as possible and reduces its impact on the environment. One of the best home improvement projects to help improve the energy efficiency of your home is to update or replace your siding. However, there are a range of different siding materials available these days, and not all are created equal when it comes to helping make your home energy efficient. Our best tip? If you are serious about making your home as energy efficient as possible, we highly recommend insulated vinyl siding.

Does Your Home Need Replacement Windows to Give it Lift?

Looking to give your home a new year makeover? Perhaps you have been meaning to get on top of your outdated bathroom, or installing new kitchen cabinets to give your home some WOW factor. However, have you ever considered how replacement windows can give your home a lift? Replacing the windows in your home is one of the best investments you can make. This is because beautiful new windows increase the comfort, style, and curb appeal of your home, while also improving the energy efficiency of your home. Not only will new windows give your home some va va voom, they will also reduce air leakage, lower your utility bills and create a quieter, calmer home.

When Choosing Loose Fill Insulation, Which is Best: Cellulose or Fiberglass?

“I would definitely recommend cellulose loose fill insulation,” says one home improvement contractor. “I would choose fiberglass loose fill insulation,” says another. Sound familiar? Chances are, if you are looking at installing new insulation in your home, you will have heard many different opinions on loose fill insulation and which is ultimately the best. Unfortunately, many home improvement contractors out there will attempt to sell you on loose fill insulation based on the materials they sell, with their opinions being heavily influenced by the materials they offer rather than actual facts. That’s certainly not the case at Windows on Washington. We base our recommendations on what is right for our clients.  So, which is best? Well, it depends on your situation. The performance of cellulose loose fill insulation is unmatched – its R-value is significantly higher than loose fiberglass filled insulation. However, fiberglass insulation is cheaper.

Need to Replace Your Roof? Ask These Questions First

Perhaps one of the biggest (and often most nerve-wracking) home improvement projects you can undertake is a roof replacement. Not only is a roof replacement one of the more expensive home improvement projects. It can also be one of the most disruptive to your everyday life. That is not to say you should not replace your roof if it is showing signs of disrepair, as the benefits far outweigh the perceived headaches. The good news is that headaches can be avoided and your roof replacement can remain stress-free if you take the time to answer some important questions first, like: how long do I want my new roof to last, what is the best material to use, do I have the best offer, and more.

Head here to find out the other important questions to ask before replacing your roof.

What to Look for In A Home Improvement Contractor

When embarking on a home improvement project, the most crucial aspect you want to get right is finding a trustworthy home improvement contractor. The contractor you select can make or break your experience, so it is vital you get it right from the start. However, there are countless home improvement contractors out there – so how do you know where to start or what to look for? Firstly, it is important you choose someone local. The benefit of choosing someone local is that local contractors live in the community with their clients. This means if they carry out poor work, word will spread, and no home improvement contractor wants a bad reputation in their community. Secondly, make sure you look at their past work, and ask for references.

Find out what else you should look for in a home improvement contract here.

Once again from everyone here at WoW, we wish you a Happy New Year and thank you again for your support and loyalty. We cannot wait to see you and work with you in 2021.
