Tis the season and Christmas is just around the corner! Whether you are having friends and extended family over, or just your immediate family, there is still every reason to ensure your home is looking and feeling festive. While COVID-19 has ensured this Christmas will be like no other, we believe decorating your home and getting into the Christmas spirit should not be skipped this year. In fact, it might even be more important! A bit of Christmas cheer will add some sparkle and fun to your home these Holidays, especially if you are going to be alone or not with all of your friends and family. That is why we have put together this quick guide to help you decorate your home for the Holidays.
At WoW, we like to keep things simple. Not only will this save you time trying to create the perfect Christmas look, but it will also save you money on overpriced trinkets and ornaments. When decorating your home for the Holidays, choose one or two festive colors and keep that theme going through your home. You can do this by using ribbons, flowers, candles, pillows and more!
Hygge is a Danish and Norwegian word for a mood of coziness and comfortable conviviality with feelings of wellness and contentment. Basically, it means to be very cozy! Whether it is just for you and your family or for guests too, there is nothing like entering a home and feeling cozy, warm and comfortable. Dim lighting is a great way to bring some Hygge into your home these Holidays, as is scented candles, plenty of blankets and a lit fireplace (if you have one!). For some extra Holiday spirit, you can even rearrange your furniture to face your Christmas tree or another festive decoration to create a real warm and inviting feel.
What are the Holidays without plenty of ornaments? While most people decorate their trees with ornaments, many miss out on other places around the home! Ornaments can go in bowls, vases and other areas for an easy and beautiful centerpiece. We recommend shatterproof ornaments, especially if you have children or pets running around the house (have you ever tried getting tiny shards of glass out of the carpet? It is not easy!)
Lights are another one of the quintessential Holiday decorations. Lights are the easiest way to add some festive cheer to your home, and they do not just have to be saved for the Christmas tree! You can turn any room in your home into a wonderland with some simple string lights. They can go on windows, doors, mantels and more.
For a real wintery, festive mood, why not go natural? For many Americans, the smell of the outdoors is synonymous with winter and the Holidays, which is why adding some greenery to your home will create a beautiful feel. Think: sprigs, holly boxwood cutting and more! You can really use any scent or piece of greenery that means something to you and reminds you of the Season.
Are your friends chopping down a real tree to bring into their home? Are they making their own advent calendars and homemade wreaths? While embracing the homemade is a lovely idea in theory, not all of us have the time or desire, and that is perfectly okay. Artificial trees, wreaths, and greenery is just as good as a real tree, and in fact, can even be better for family members who have allergies. At the end of the day, faux is perfectly fine.
