Turkey roasting in the oven. Stuffing, vegetables and yams galore. The sweet smell of homemade pumpkin pie wafting throughout your home. The NFL game blaring from the TV. Thanksgiving means a lot of different things to a lot of different people. Historically, as we know, the celebration of Thanksgiving is a feast to give thanks for the fruits of the previous harvest. Yet this national festival has transpired into something much more. It’s a day to be with family and friends, something that likely does not happen enough. It’s a day to talk about what you are thankful for – from having a roof over your head and food on your table, to perhaps being thankful for that new promotion you just got or the improved health of a loved one. It’s a day for forgiveness, for acceptance and for starting a-fresh.
At Windows on Washington, we are thankful for many things. Yet perhaps what we are most grateful for is you – our clients. Without you, we would not be where we are today. It’s thanks to you, who trusted us with your homes and took the time to write reviews and endorsed our tireless work that we have established our humble family business as a leading home improvement contractor in Maryland and Virginia. So on this wonderful national holiday, our hearty and sincerest thanks goes out to all of you.
And, because we are a home improvement company, an article of ours is not complete without some home improvement tips. Below are just a few ways you can set the mood for Thanksgiving in your home, from small tasks like a coat of fresh paint to bigger jobs like making sure your home is warm for all the guests you will be hosting this Thanksgiving and throughout the entire Holiday Season.
If you were tasked with hosting this years’ family Thanksgiving feast, you might be looking around your home and wondering how you can make sure it is in top shape for the occasion. Of course, your family will love you no matter what, even if your house is a mess. However, it is never a bad time to give your home a bit of TLC, especially with the holiday season around the corner.
1. Freshen Your Home with a Coat of Paint
When was the last time your home received a fresh coat of paint? Chances are, it has been a while. The good news is repainting your walls could not be easier and it will significantly improve the appearance of your home. Rooms with exposure to sunlight and pollution will likely be the worst affected by wear and tear, so it is a good idea to start with those rooms. Or, if you do not have the time to add a fresh coat of paint to all of your rooms, just do the ones where guests will be spending most of their time (for example: the dining room, the bathroom and the kitchen).
Hardwood and parquet flooring add a touch of elegance to a room, yet even the best wood is prone to scratching and marks over time. While the scratches might not be overly deep, dirt gradually becomes stuck in them and can make the appearance worse. A simple clean and polish of your floors will bring back their shine and instantly brighten the rooms they are in.
There is nothing worse than hosting your family for Thanksgiving lunch or dinner and overhearing someone say, “It is freezing in here!” Nobody enjoys being cold, and you certainly do not want your family and friends shivering with every bite of turkey. However, you might also be mindful of your heating bills, especially if you are hosting your family overnight. One of the best investments you can make this winter and holiday season – especially if you plan on doing a lot of entertaining at home – is investing in insulation. Insulation essentially works by inhibiting the transfer of heat. In the winter, it prevents cold air from the outdoors from penetrating the interior of a house, helping keep the home warmer inside. So if you want to ensure your guests are warm and comfortable this Thanksgiving and well into the future, consider insulating your home properly.
Once again, from Windows of Washington to you and yours, Happy Thanksgiving! We hope you enjoy this special holiday.
