No doubt you are already in holiday mode, looking forward to family celebrations and ringing in the new year. And, as you open your home to your family and friends, you might be thinking about how you can prepare your home for an influx of visitors and all the celebrations! Do not stress, we have done the hard work for you. We have rounded up some of our favourite home improvement tips for the holidays. We hope you enjoy this article - and from everyone here at Windows on Washington, Happy Holidays!
1. Create a Warm and Welcoming Home with Insulation and Replacement Windows
If you are hosting family and friends over the holidays, the last thing you want is for someone to complain about how cold your home is. A happy guest is a warm guest. However, you do not want to find your next utility bill has shot through the roof because you had your heating on non-stop over the holidays. We have two simple solutions to make sure your guests are happy, and your energy bills remain low. Firstly, make sure your home is properly insulated and sealed. Installing insulation can be costly, so you can simply start with the rooms that get the most use. The second tip we have for you is to check your windows and doors. If your rooms feel drafty or appear to let air out, it is probably time to replace your windows and doors. The good news is insulating your home and replacing any old windows and doors will keep your house comfortable throughout all the seasons, not just during the cooler months.
2. Finish Any DIY Projects You Have Started
If you enjoy carrying out your own home improvements, that is great! Just make sure any unfinished projects are wrapped up and put away before guests begin to arrive. You do not want a family member tripping over ripped up carpet or a can of paint that is lying around. And, if you feel like you have taken on more than you can handle, you can always call local home improvement professionals who will help you finish the job quickly and professionally.
3. Brighten Up Your Home
A fresh coat of paint can go a long way when it comes to making your home presentable for the holidays. You do not have to go crazy with the paint brush and paint every room, but think about painting the rooms where your guests will spend most of their time such as the living room, dining room and kitchen. For a bright and cheery home, it is also a good idea to check all your lightbulbs are working too as the last thing you want is your guests walking around in dimmed or even dark rooms.
There is nothing quite like a good de-cluttering and re-organization of your home. From old newspapers lying around to old appliances taking up room in the kitchen, now is a good time to work through your possessions and sort the clutter out. A simple way to do this is by sorting everything into three categories: keep, donate and trash. Not only will you create some extra room and space for your guests, but you will also be doing a good deed by donating unused items to those who need it.
These are just some simple and easy tips to make your home look and feel its best before the holiday season and all the festivities begin. Again, from all of us to you, we wish you a wonderful Holiday Season and a Happy New Year too!
