Let’s talk about some of the things you are likely to hear when you ask some window
companies into your home.
Claim: “Our windows are custom made.”
FACT: All vinyl windows are custom made to fit the exact opening of the original
window.
Claim: “Our windows are fusion welded”
FACT: Fusion welding is the preferred method of manufacturing vinyl windows.
Some cheaper windows are not fusion welded, but instead are mechanically fastened.
The fact is, all major window manufacturers make their better windows using fusion
welding.
Claim :“Our windows have a patented ‘Warm Edge Spacer System”
FACT: The PPG Intercept ™ Warm Edge Spacer System was developed by the Pittsburg
Plate Glass Company. This is a technology that is licensed to every major glass
manufacturer and is available on practically everyone’s dual pane insulated glass
window. No window should be without this technology.
Claim: “Our windows have a special stainless steel balance system.”
FACT: The stainless steel constant force balance system is used in almost
everyone’s vinyl replacement window. This is the new technology that replaced the
old coiled spring or the even older block and tackle system of raising and lowering
the window sashes. You’ll benefit from smooth, comfortable fingertip operation.
Claim: “Our sashes interlock for added security and comfort.”
FACT: Almost all vinyl replacement windows of quality are made with interlocking
sashes.
Claim: “Our windows offer a ‘Low e’ glass package with argon gas for improved
energy efficiency.”
FACT: Low e glass packages are available from every window manufacturer.
The ClimaTech Insulated Glass Package offered by Windows on Washington, combines
PPG’s Solarban ® 60 multilayered Low-E Glass with the Intercept ™ Warm Edge Spacer
System and argon or krypton gas. This system far exceeds the performance requirements
set forth by the US Department of Energy n conjunction with the National Fenestration
Rating Council test criteria.
Claim: “Our windows come with a rebate of $75 - $150 per window.”
FACT: A rebate is nothing more than a discount on an overpriced window. Don’t
be fooled by offers of rebates or discounts for buying immediately. Windows on Washington
will provide you with a free in home estimate and leave the quote with you for as
long as it takes to make your decision. Intelligent consumers will buy after doing
a thorough investigation of the product and the company with whom they are going
to be doing business.
Since so many features are similar in the various windows being offered, how can
a consumer make the right decision? Let’s review a few absolutes in making the best
choice.
Unless the company you are dealing with is licensed, bonded and insured, they should
not be considered.
Are they members in good standing of the Better Business Bureau?
Do they offer a Transferable, Lifetime, Factory, and Replacement Warranty?
Are they price competitive?
Can they provide references?
